Just after the New Year, I saw a few friends posting about a site where you answer questions and it gives you a word of the year. This word reflects your relationship with Christ. I was intrigued to find out what my word would be.
Starting the quiz I knew I wasn’t going to journal. I was just curious what my word would be.

But, when I saw the word, it hit me in a strange way. As if God was talking to me and telling me He knew exactly what I needed to hear. He always does, right? I felt called to give the word time. Because, by giving the word time, I would be giving God time. My word was, Abide.
I know this word was chosen for me because I don’t spend enough time with God. I think of Him. I pray quick prayers throughout the day. I talk to my kiddos about Him. But, I don’t spend time with Him. I don’t abide in Him. I don’t allow Him to abide in me.

I often ask the question, why do we want to go to Heaven if we don’t praise God on earth? Isn’t that what Heaven is all about? Praising God? If I don’t spend time with God, why do I have hope in Him and his promise of eternal life?

My relationship with God is important to me. I don’t show Him it is. Of course, He knows my heart. But, that isn’t what He wants. He wants me to know Him more. He wants me to abide in Him. I am making the commitment to make my word, Abide, a weekly feature on my blog. It may be the word itself, or the result of abiding in Him. Making this commitment on my blog will motivate me to spend more time with God. I am excited to share this with you.
